Things We Wish More People Knew About Hospice

  1. It is ok to feel all the feels. The process of finding hospice care for yourself or a loved one can feel scary, overwhelming, rushed, and a myriad of other ways. All of those feelings are valid. Even though things might be a bit chaotic right now, be sure to set aside at least a few moments to breathe and acknowledge how you are feeling.

  2. Don’t go it alone. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, either from your friends, family members, or even from the variety of nonprofit resources that exist in your community. Coastal also has staff members available to help you with all the various stages of your admission process and hospice care experience- please let us know how we can be of service.

  3. Going on hospice doesn’t mean that you have to leave home. In fact, at Coastal, we specialize in home-based hospice care, so you can stay in your own house, surrounded by the people and things you love.

  4. You are in control of your hospice experience. You can decide the level of care you want to experience- from occasional check-ins to more frequent visits. We have a variety of nurses, therapists, social workers, and grief and bereavement specialists to help you through every stage of your experience.

  5. It might not be as costly as you think. Medicare Part A covers up to 100% of hospice expenses, and most other insurance plans have hospice coverage as well. Our admissions specialists can answer all your financial questions before you start care, so you never feel like there are any unexpected charges or other “surprises.”

If you have any other questions about anything related to home health or hospice care, please don’t hesitate to call our office at 541-469-0405.
